The SDG Media Ministry had its humble beginnings in 1991 with a 30-minute radio broadcast aired over the radio station DXFE, the AM station of the Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC) in Davao City. The name of the radio program then was Bread For You, with the Bread of Life – Davao being the programmer. The name was changed to Shepherd’s Voice when Bread of Life – Davao became Soli Deo Gloria Christian Ministries in July 1996.
Its history is an amazing story of the Lord’s blessing and expansion. The positive feedback from listeners led the radio staff to expand the radio mission work in Mindanao and eventually Visayas and Luzon. In partnership with the FEBC, the Shepherd’s Voice program covered the air lanes of Davao, Cotabato, Surigao, and Zamboanga in Mindanao. Its coverage in the Visayas included Bacolod City and Bohol; and in Luzon – Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Zambales, and the Bicol region.
The high-paced advancements in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) necessitated an expansion of the broadcast medium to other forms of communication—sermon notes, audio disks, and the Internet—to disseminate the gospel message more effectively and globally.
Through the years, the recorded pulpit messages of Pastor Jurem U. Ramos, Senior Pastor of Soli Deo Gloria Church, originally produced cassette tapes for the radio audience. The format underwent constant updating and upgrading to cater to the needs of the listeners and viewers.
What started off as a single, half-hour, week-end radio program aired locally became the present Multi-Media Ministry offering several affiliated services, including counseling and conducting of seminars.
The rapid advance in communication technology made it possible to reach out to as many audiences as possible even with the limited resources available.
In 2011, the name of the radio program was changed to Shepherd’s Call. Since then, the Media Ministry continues to expand covering five cities through the FM band—Davao City, Kidapawan City, and Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental, all through The Edge Radio of the United Christian Broadcasters (UCB); Gen. Santos City, through Kairos Media Management and Services; and Tagum City, through Eagles Ministry Crusade Foundation Philippines, Inc. It also maintained its prime-time programs over the FEBC network in DZAS Karuhatan, DYVS Bacolod, and DXKI Koronadal.
In January of 2014, after several years of being based in Juna Subdivision of Davao, the Media Ministry moved to the Soli Deo Gloria Christian Church’s new home near the heart of the city at corner Araullo Extension and Panganiban Streets.
All these can only be attributed to the immeasurable grace of God… this is HIStory… Soli Deo Gloria indeed!
