Mission Statement of SDG Christian Ministries
In total dependence upon the Holy Spirit and for the glory of God alone, we exist, to worship and enjoy God, by
- regularly assembling together,
- upholding and proclaiming biblical truth,
- knowing Christ and making Him known,
- persuading others to believe in Him,
- assimilating believers into the local church, and
- equipping them for ministry and mission.
Specific Purposes of SDG Christian Ministries
| Exaltation | We exalt (1Pe 2:9; Ro 15:9-11; Ac 2:47; 10:46) and enjoy the Lord (Ps 37:4; 73:25-26; Lk 1:47; Ac 16:34; Php 4:4; 1Pe 1:8; 1Pe 4:13) by assembling regularly (Heb 10:25) on the Lord’s day and other appointed days (Ac 20:7; Rev 1:10; Ac 2:46-47), worshiping corporately (Ac 13:2) through singing to the Lord and to one another (Eph 5:19-20), preaching and listening to God’s Word (Ac 2:42a), partaking of the Lord’s Supper (Ac 2:42b,46), praying (Ac 2:42c), giving (Ac 2:44-45; 1Co 16:2), and offering other spiritual sacrifices (Ac 2:47a; Heb 13:16). |
| Preservation | We uphold (1Ti 3:9,15) and guard (2Ti 1:14) the general teachings of Scripture, the essential and fundamental doctrines in particular, e.g. the gospel (Jude 1:3; 1Ti 3:9), and the SDG distinctives as defined in the Statement of Faith—by helping every member to learn what these doctrines are (Col 3:16); by applying personally and corporately its teachings in life, worship and ministry (Jas 1:22); by rejecting false teaching (1Ti 4:1-5) and false teachers (2Jn 1:7-11); and by exposing and refuting those who oppose it (1Ti 1:19-20; 2Ti 2:16-18; 2Ti 4:14). |
| Edification | We pursue spiritual maturity by studying God’s word (1Pe 2:2; Eph 4:13; Col 1:28), by praying for ourselves and one another (Eph 6:18; Col 4:12), by providing a context of loving fellowship with one another (Ac 2:42-46), and by one-on-one discipleship (2Ti 2:2).. |
| Evangelization | We evangelize for Christ by living God-honoring lives (Mt 5:13-16; 1Pe 2:12), by clearly proclaiming the gospel (1Co 15:1-4; Gal 1:8-9), by persuading others to become Christians (2Co 5:11; Ac 17:2-4; 18:4,5,28; 19:8-10; 26:28-29) and by helping converts to be integrated into the life and ministry of the local church (Ac 9:20). |
| Assimilation | We assimilate believers into the local church by baptizing them (Mt 28:18-20; Ac 9:26-28; 14:23) and helping them to become active members—who pursue the above four purposes of the church, who are lovingly involved in the lives of others, (Col 3:12-15; 1Co 12:12-27), who are accountable to other members (Gal 6:1; Heb 3:12-13), who respectfully submit to church leadership (1Co 16:16; 1Th 5:12-13; Heb 13:17), and who willingly go through Church discipline when needed (Mt 18:15-20). |
| Mobilization | We mobilize our members by helping them to discover their spiritual gifts (Ro 12:3-8), by training them and providing avenues for them to minister to other members (Ac 18:26-28). We also equip and mobilize our members towards missions (Mt 28:18-20) and support our members who heed the call of God to go as full-time missionaries (2Co 8:1-5; 3Jn 1:7-8). |
